I got an email from Nerdy Shirts informing me about a new t-shirt they have on sale so I decided to check it out and in my googling way to their store I came across an interesting link. The title of the link was NerdyShirts.com Honors BustedTees.com Designers. I wondered why Nerdy Shirts would be honoring Busted Tees so of course I had to take a look. What I found was very interesting indeed. It seems that Busted Tees is accusing Nerdy Shirts of stealing their web site design and when you compare the sites you can see why.
Here is what Busted Tees have to say about the situation.
Sometimes, we do not give enough credit to our behind the scenes team. Two of the most valuable team members we have are Amir Cohen and Zach Klein, who design our website. Lucky for us, a competitor of ours, NerdyShirts.com decided to honor Amir and Zach by copying our design for their t shirt selling website. If they “borrowed” our design, we only wonder where they borrowed their t shirt ideas from, because here at BustedTees, we do original work.
The problem we ran into with Nerdy Shirts taking our design is that Nerdy didn’t pay Amir and Zach for their work … but if someone uses their work, they have to get paid for it. Now, we could have called our lawyers and made a big deal about nerdy shirts but instead we decided run a sale on our original site, that we didn’t copy from anyone, on original shirts, that we didn’t copy from anybody, to make money to pay Amir and Zach for Nerdy Shirts using their work.
We also have our smoking-hot, original, BustedTees.com t shirt wearing models. They can’t copy our models … or come close enough to feed them. Support our originality, our models, and our designers, buy BustedTees.
That last dig got me wondering about how they stack up to each other in sales and of course I don’t have their sales figures but I think that there is a certain colleration between traffic and sales so the following graph might lend some weight to Busted Tees insinuation that Nerdy Shirts doesn’t make nearly as much money as they do.
The dig at the Nerdy Shirts models was a bit uncalled for though. That said, I do think some of the Busted Tees models are hot. No, I’m not talking about you Jake.
Anyway if you still interested in shopping at Nerdy Shirts here is a 25% off coupon that they sent me: twgs8828. Unfortunately they didn’t give me any other information about it.
Sorry about that omission of said information: the coupon (twgs8828) is for 25% off the entire order and it is active until Monday (3.30)
Cat fight!
i only buy my shirts from busted tees. they have the funniest i have seen anywhere. they are really unique and guaranteed to make you laugh. and yeah, their designers are better and their models are hotter……nothing but love for busted tees!
My friends run KosherHam.com. Their site might not be anything like busted or the big guys, but at least these guys aren’t fuckin shammin and scammin. Their site is “fair”, but their shirts are sweet, original, and not rip-offs. That’s not cool what nerdy is doing. Their content is so ‘been there done that.’ Busted Tees are who they are for a reason…originality. Busted Tees and Snorg welcome competition, but these guys have been doing it for 5+ yrs. Too many crap sites out there are stealing others’ ideas. How many “That’s What She Said” tees are going to be out on the market. Grow-up, nerdy! With up and comers like Kosher Ham, Rizzo Tees, that company w/ the orange and orange juice tee, etc. the fellas at Nerdy will be stuck doing the same copy-cat crap for years. BOYCOTT COPY-CATS, and support original ideas. NOT COOL, Nerdy.
Website Designs aren’t the only thing they steal! They stole one of my Graphic Designs and shamelessy print it without my permission for profit. These guys are just a bunch of shameless thieves who think that the internet is their own personal pantry that they can just pick things out of without consequence. Show them that this kind of behavior is not acceptable, don’t buy their pirated merchandise, you’re poisoning the industry when you support thieves like this.
