Classy Cotton is a small online t-shirt store started by Robert Broersma in the Netherlands in 2013.
I’m running this business alone from my room. It might be small, but I’m proud of it!
Classy Cotton T-Shirt Review
This t-shirt arrived a while back but due to an addition to our family and preparing to move to our new house it got lost in the pile of stuff on my desk that I generously call my to-do list. Sorry for the delay.
The Classy Cotton t-shirt that I received is actually a 50% cotton 50% polyester blend. It’s a vibrant blue American Apparel v-neck t-shirt. I think that the official color is Neon Heather Blue. Anyway, whatever it’s called, I like it. It’s definitely a blue that I would wear and the poly-cotton blend is light and soft. Perfect for my climate (Okinawa is hot and humid). The print is perfect and light. The ink on the breasts of the tits (birds) is a little heavy but it is a small area. My guess is plastisol screenprint.
T-Shirt Design
I like the t-shirt but I don’t really understand the design. There are two cute birds on a wire with yellow breasts. These birds are around the upper stomach area and above that is the text: I like your tits. I understand the innuendo here. There are some birds of the tit variety.
The tits, chickadees, and titmice constitute the Paridae, a large family of small passerine birds which occur mainly in the Northern Hemisphere and Africa. – Wikipedia
So “I like your tits”, which you would expect to be a comment referring to a part of a woman’s anatomy, is actually innocently referring to birds. But it doesn’t really make sense because people don’t have tits (birds) as pets as far as I know and if they are referring to the birds on the t-shirt shouldn’t the text read “I like my tits”. It only makes sense that if the tits I am referring to are on my t-shirt that they would be mine. Perhaps if the text read “Do you like my tits?” it would be better. Or perhaps “Great Tits” as the Great Tit is a species of tit. At least, they would make sense. Still, as a guy, I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing any of these slogans. I’m not sure that there are too many women who would want to wear this t-shirt either.
Branding and Extras
The branding on the t-shirt is subtle, the way I like it. The Classy Cotton logo is printed on the inside under the neck along with the care instructions. There is also a card hangtag with the logo and cute mascot. There was no branding on the plain white paper mailer that the t-shirt came in.
In the mailer, there were two Classy Cotton logo stickers, a business card and a postcard with a handwritten message from Robert Broersma.
Website
The Classy Cotton website is basically a store hosted on Tictail. It’s simple, clean and easy to navigate. Well, there is not much to navigate. Apart from the homepage, there are four product pages and an About page. The search feature is redundant. I did check it out though and it will narrow down your selection if you search words in the names of the t-shirts. I guess they are no tagged or there is no tagging system available because if you search bird, tree or broccoli, there are no results.
There are four v-neck t-shirts in the store. They all have the same design aesthetic which is a good thing. I would probably wear the three t-shirts that weren’t sent to me but perhaps I was sent the t-shirt that sold the least. (That would be a strange tactic for promotion, though.)
As mentioned above, there is an About page but that’s about it. There were no links to social media or a blog.
Pricing
The t-shirts are all €15 (which is US$16.58 today but the currency market has been a bit volatile lately). Still, I think that’s a very good price.
Wrap-Up
The t-shirt is good quality and reasonably priced. The quality of the design is very good but the content is weird. The other t-shirts in the store are pretty cool, though. I even like the logo t-shirt because they have a cute character that may or may not be a hedgehog. I think the artist is talented but I don’t think this business venture is successful or likely to be. There are only four t-shirts in a store that was launched in 2013. It’s now July 2016.
