If you are following @RudeRetro on Twitter you probably know that I went to Design Festa and while I was there I met, among other people, one David Murray from SEIBEI. Before going I checked Tee Reviewer archives and realized that I had never posted about his store. Well, here we are. There will be a few more Design Festa posts but I thought that I would start with SEIBEI.
It was my first time to Design Festa and I have to admit that it was a lot different from what I had imagined. I expected something more out there but it was basically a large open space with stalls separated by panels. It was huge though and I didn’t have time to check out upstairs. Dragging my baby around with me slowed down the process as did handing out the Edo Label flyers. (If I have time I’ll scan and post the flyer later. It’s pretty cool and gives you a sneak peak at a much delayed new shirt release.)
I found David Murray and his boy wonder in a sweet corner stall. As you can see he had a nice collection of tees in various color-ways. I’m not big on wearing cutsie t-shirts and there is a lot of that in SEIBEI but there is a dash of humor added which really helps. My favorite tee in the store has to be the “I like to say things and eat stuff” tee. That’s a great line and yes that is me too. So me. It could have been made for me. I especially like to say things…and eat stuff.
I have a feeling that the t-shirts weren’t exactly flying off the shelves at the Design Festa, at least not as fast as Mr. Murray had hoped because he told me that he had brought a lot of tees over and was talking about setting up at some markets in Harajuku or something along those lines. Design Festa is not really about buying and selling though, it is about looking and showing and I believe that was the goal of SEIBEI in Japan. I’d love to know how he got on.
Anyway, you should check out the online store: SEIBEI
*Edit: I just checked the SEIBEI blog and it seems I made a fairly accurate assessment.
